History

The Kailua Racquet Club traces its roots back to 1938 when eight people pooled $2,750 each to snag 7.5 acres of land. With an initial membership of 20 families, they set up shop in a secluded forest, creating a private haven for weekends with family and friends. The original facilities included a small clubhouse, kitchen, dining patio, bathhouse, and a swimming pool - still in use today! Back then, they had one tennis court and a volleyball court.

In 1952, the club underwent a transformation, incorporating and opening its membership to the community. Limited to 50 members, the initiation fee, inclusive of a stock certificate, was a mere $50. As the years rolled by, the corporation decided to purchase the land from the original eight owners, marking the beginning of numerous improvements. By 1964, about three acres were sold to fund enhancements, leaving nearly four acres for the club as it stands today.

In 1976, the original clubhouse was completely torn down, making way for the construction of a new one. In the 1980's added an additional court, bringing up the total count to nine courts.

Today, the board of directors and management team remain dedicated to preserving the property's legacy while also embracing opportunities for modernization and improvement, ensuring that the club continues to embody its unique blend of charm and history.
